If you’ve read through this website you probably understand that the Kenora Opera Theatre is not your typical opera company. Actually, it’s not an opera company at all, it is a branch of the Olivia Whiddon Academy of Music that offers the ‘opera’tunity to perform while students receive lessons and workshops to make those performances possible. Our end game is not the performance; that just happens to be our destination. Using our strengths, cultural identity and flexibility we present music that reflects who we are as a community, while training students to sing with healthy voices.
Ruth and Olivia are both Ontario Registered Music Teachers sharing their knowledge, and love of classical music with their community.
So, what can you expect when you audition for Kenora Opera Theatre? Once the audition process is complete each singer will be assigned a role in the show or opera they auditioned for. Careful consideration is taken when assigning roles, and you’ll never be given more than you can handle. Once you have received your music and rehearsals start you will receive vocal coaching with Olivia, piano coaching with Ruth, and you’ll also be able to work with any guest artists we have working on that project. Our job is to help you find your best singing voice, and to carefully coach you in preparation for performance.
